What You Should Know Before Hiring a Contractor
These are the questions we hear most and the ones we think every client should ask.
About Our Company
Is LeafCL licensed, bonded, and insured?
Yes. LeafCL is a Washington State registered contractor (License LEAFC**746D5) with a $30,000 contractor bond and $1,000,000 in general liability insurance. You can verify our license anytime through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.
What areas do you serve?
We serve communities throughout King County (Seattle, Bellevue, Renton, Burien, Tukwila, Kent, Auburn, Federal Way, Kirkland, Redmond, and more), Pierce County (Tacoma, Lakewood, Puyallup, University Place, Bonney Lake, Gig Harbor, and surrounding areas), and Snohomish County (Everett, Lynnwood, Bothell, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Mill Creek, Mukilteo, and beyond). If you’re unsure whether we serve your area, contact us! We’re happy to discuss your project.
What types of work does LeafCL do?
We operate two divisions. Our construction crews handle interior and exterior remodeling, including; kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, carpentry, painting, drywall, cabinets, doors, windows, decks, patios, exterior repairs, and general maintenance. Our landscaping crews handle site grading, hardscape and paver installation, retaining walls, fencing, planting, irrigation, ponds, land clearing, and pressure washing. For plumbing and electrical work, we coordinate through licensed subcontractors so your project is handled properly from start to finish.
What work don't you do?
We do not perform new construction, structural modifications, roofing, or any work above 16 feet. We do not perform electrical or plumbing work directly as those trades are handled through our licensed subcontractor partners when your project requires them.
The Process
How do I get a quote?
You can request a quote by calling us at 206-538-8917, or by submitting a request through our Contact page. We respond within one business day. For most projects, we’ll schedule a site visit to walk the scope with you before providing a detailed written estimate.
Is there a charge for estimates?
No. Site visits and estimates are free for standard projects within our service area.
How far out are you typically scheduled?
It varies by season and project type. Because we operate multiple crews, we can often begin work sooner than single-operator contractors. We’ll give you a realistic timeline during the estimate process.
Do you pull permits?
When permits are required for your project, we will work with you to acquire the permits you need. We’ll let you know during the estimate whether your project requires permits and factor that into the timeline. Ultimately, this is your job site and the responsibility for permitting and utilities remains with the property owner.
What should I expect during the project?
Clear communication from start to finish. We assign a dedicated crew to your project, keep the job site clean and organized, and provide regular updates on progress. When the work is complete, we conduct a final walkthrough with you to make sure every detail meets your expectations.
Safety and Compliance
Do you carry workers' compensation insurance?
Yes. All LeafCL employees are covered under Washington State workers’ compensation insurance as required by law. This protects both our team and our clients.
Do you have a formal safety program?
Yes. LeafCL maintains a written safety program that covers hazard identification, personal protective equipment, fall protection, equipment operation, hazardous materials, and emergency procedures. Our crews participate in weekly safety meetings, and every team member receives documented safety training before beginning work in the field.
How do you handle hazardous materials like lead paint or asbestos?
We follow all federal and Washington State regulations regarding hazardous materials. For properties built before 1978, we follow EPA lead-safe work practices under the RRP Rule. If asbestos-containing materials are suspected, we coordinate with licensed abatement professionals before proceeding. We do not disturb known or suspected hazardous materials without proper protocols in place.
Do your subcontractors carry their own licenses and insurance?
Yes. Every subcontractor we work with holds their own Washington State trade license and carries their own insurance coverage. We verify credentials before any subcontractor works on your project.
Can I verify your contractor license?
Absolutely. You can look up our license (LEAFC**746D5) directly on the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries website at lni.wa.gov. You can also see our insurance and bond listed publicly with L&I. We encourage every client to verify any contractor’s license before hiring them.
